JWH finds extra motivation from his dad

As if the in-form Jared Waerea-Hargreaves needed any extra motivation, the young prop has dedicated the Anzac Day clash to his dad who served around the world in numerous conflicts.

According to an interview in the Telegraph today:

“This is the only game when he gives me words of advice. He says ‘do this one for me’. For my father to say that, it really does mean a lot. It will be an emotional day.

“Dad served in Cambodia with the United Nations as a peace-keeper.

“He also served in Baghdad in Iraq for the US military. I have full respect for my father and for what he has done in his lifetime.”

Does this mean he’ll aim up even more?

He’s been absolutely outstanding through six rounds and has been the form front-rower in the competition. He’s the defensive leader for a team that ranks second in that department, and his go-forward has been exceptional.

But a new wrinkle to his game is his offloads. He had four in the last game against the Bulldogs and 10 for the season, trailing offload-wizard Sonny Bill Williams by just one.

From The Telegraph:

JARED Waerea-Hargreaves will play for just one man in tomorrow’s emotional Anzac Day match against St George Illawarra. His father, Wayne.

In a stirring tribute before the Anzac Day match, Waerea-Hargreaves yesterday revealed Wayne’s proud military service record in Cambodia and Iraq.

He admitted to having goose bumps just talking about Wayne’s achievements.

The emotion will spill out tomorrow at Allianz Stadium when Anzac diggers will be remembered and revered. Jared will be out there for his dad.

“This is the only game when he gives me words of advice. He says ‘do this one for me’,” Jared said.

“For my father to say that, it really does mean a lot. It will be an emotional day.

“Dad served in Cambodia with the United Nations as a peace-keeper.
