TEAMS FOR NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS VS SYDNEY ROOSTERS, RD 10 2013

UPDATED: The Cows have added bull-in-a-china-shop Jason Taumalolo to an extended bench, while the remainder of the  team that was slaughtered by the Rabbitohs 28-10 last round has been named.

The North Queensland outfit has four former Roosters — Antonio Winterstein, Kane Linnett, 2006 two-game wonder Glenn Hall and former Paddo Tiger James Tamou. They also start Tariq Sims, who is fighting for the same spot in the NSW team that Boyd Cordner is reportedly a front-runner for.

Tamou and Matt Scott form the best one-two front-row punch in the league, and will face a Roosters team missing its two first-choice props.

Cowboys team for Round 10: Matt Bowen, Ashley Graham, Brent Tate, Kane Linnett, Antonio Winterstein, Johnathan Thurston (C), Ray Thompson, Matt Scott (C), Rory Kostjasyn, James Tamou, Tariq Sims, Gavin Cooper, Dallas Johnson. Interchange: (From) Scott Moore, Glenn Hall, Ashton Sims, Scott Bolton, Jason Taumalolo.

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has been suspended five weeks for a Grade 1 Reckless High Tackle. The Roosters are yet to name a replacement, but interestingly, Lama Tasi and Dylan Napa have both not been named for Newtown on Saturday.

  1. Having passed the first big hurdle of the season with that win over Manly, this game against the Cowboys is key for a number of reasons. And as they are expected to win, the Roosters will need to be sure to keep control of the game and shut out the Cowboys at an appropriate stage, avoiding the disappointment felt against the Raiders not so long ago.
Without another solid performance here I feel we will struggle against what by then will be a seething Storm outfit the following week.
The JWH fiasco might provide further opportunity for several on the fringe of this side, with the chance for some established players to take the step up and increase their involvement somewhat. Just another new challenge for our coach I guess. Still much to learn and go through yet for our Roosters side I’m afraid.

    • I think the heat, as always, may bother them, but their defence is simply first class. Hopefully we don’t fall into that trap like we did againstt he Raiders — although that loss doesn’t loko so bad now in light of their performances in the past two weeks (even though Campo and Fergo didn’t play against us).

I’m starting the Free Lama movement. It’s a non-profit organisation demanding the first-grade recall of one of the most talented youngsters in the squad, Lama Tasi.
