TEAMS FOR SYDNEY ROOSTERS VS NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS, RD 14 2013

Sonny Bill Williams will escape suspension for a high shot on Matt Ryan against the Eels on Friday, while Boyd Cordner has pleaded not guilty to a grade one striking charge for a fight with the same player. He’ll front the judiciary on Wednesday night.

Had he pleaded guilty early he would have missed a game either way, so the Chooks have as expected decided to mount a challenge. Boyd could take some lessons from pro-boxer Williams if the fight on Friday is anything to go by — and hopefully Cordner’s lack of ability as a pugilist is enough to see him get off. No truth to the rumours however that Ryan is suffering from a  cold thanks to the constant breeze from missed haymakers sailing past his face during the biff.

So the Roosters have named the same team that ran out against the Eels despite rumours that Sam “Victa” Moa would return from a knee injury. Watch this space, as Robbo has been known to change his sides at the last minute.

Roosters team for Round 14: Anthony Minichiello (C) ,Daniel Tupou, Michael Jennings, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, James Maloney, Mitchell Pearce, Luke O’Donnell, Jake Friend, Martin Kennedy, Mitchell Aubusson, Sonny Bill Williams, Boyd Cordner. Interchange: Daniel Mortimer, Frank-Paul Nu’uausala, Aidan Guerra, Isaac Liu.

The Warriors have won three straight games heading into the Bro Show versus the Chooks, including a last-start win against the Sea Eagles to propel them from the bottom of the ladder all the way to 13th. Their last loss was a 62-6 capitulation against the Panthers.

Russell Packer returns after pissing himself on the field two weeks ago, with matt Elliott naming an extended bench.
