Sonny Bill Williams is out versus the Sharks

Star second-rower Sonny Bill Williams has been ruled out of the game versus the Cronulla Sharks on Saturday:

SBW

A source told me the club wants to give him another week off to rest that hamstring which forced him off after just 29 minutes in their last game against the Dragons, but that he should be right to play the following week versus the Knights.

While all four Origin players for the Roosters have been cleared to back up for the club, the SBW injury is a massive blow for the Roosters as they come up against the size of a Cronulla pack. While the Sharks are missing Gallen, Lewis and Graham, the Sonny Bill loss evens the ledger ever so slightly.

  2. There would be nothing better to see than a rampant Rooster’s forwards pack missing SBW giving MP7 the time and space to bounce back straight after SOO. Let’s hope the forwards step up in this one for the Rooster’s and for MP7.

    • I second that notion. But i have no doubts his teammates will really want to lift to make it easy for their number 7. The outpouring of support for the kid has been great from his teammates all the way to Uncle Nick. Makes this writer proud to be a Roosters fan.

  3. I’d just like the Rooster’s pack to really get some consistent go forward and cut the kid loose on the back of it. We all know what he can do when he’s given the opportunity but I really hope he has a game to remember and puts on plenty of points and his talent is on display for all to see.

    • Me too. On a good note/good omen, Mitch looked happy during their last training session: bit.ly/13RQWm8

People are totally entitled to criticise him, and his game in the decider was a lightning rod for it. But a lot of it morphed into vitriol and hatred. Good luck to those people who can’t argue a point in a rational, civilised way.

  5. So true. Individuals claiming with Sutton and Reynolds the series was a certain win for NSW. They dismiss the importance of NSW inability to go forward in the series on a whole, disregard the lack of any attacking plays or the capacity of the rest of the team to be on the same page even. Heck if believe them, NSW only needed only to field these two players and still win…

    • I’m opersonally of the belief now, having watched Reynolds closely all year, that he offers more in attack — which is perhaps the medicine the Blues need.

I was not always of this opinion but Reynolds has been fantastic this year. His kicking game is the best in the NRL. Defensively he is miles from what MP7 can do, but defence wasn’t the issue.

Having said that, the assertion that the Blues would have won had they just selected Reynolds is silly. The Blues are up against the greatest collection of talent outside of the Australian team the NRL has seen. Reynolds will now walk into the fire and cop the same heat — whether he can prove those calling for his selection right is another question that can only be answered with a series win.
