Jonathon Reuben to join the Roosters?

UPDATED: Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson told the Fan Forum a few weeks back that the Roosters were missing one outside back for depth purposes, claiming at the time that the wingers in the 20s and NSW Cup weren’t quite ready for the step up.

Many people thought the Roosters would then chase Israel Folau and/or Blake Ferguson, but it looks as though they’ll build their depth through the 20s with the rumours that Raiders flyer Jonathon Reuben is set to join the Roosters.

Twitter’s Sam Anderson (@ando4285) tweeted this to your friendly neighbourhood Roosters website:

… and 26 Rounds then spotted this in the Sydney Morning Herald:

The Canberra Raiders are optimistic of re-signing promising juniors Jack Ahearn and Jeremy Hawkins before the finals, but are set to lose exciting winger Jonathon Reuben to the Sydney Roosters next season….

…..Ahearn, a fullback, and Hawkins, a winger, are on the cusp of NRL selection and the club hopes to announce new deals soon. The Raiders have also been in talks with Reuben, but it’s understood the 20-year-old try-scoring machine will join the Roosters.

This rumoured signing of the young flier, who is set to graduate from the 20’s next season, follows the much-applauded signing of Jackson Hastings on Tuesday.

Reuben was recently named in the under 20’s Team of the Year alongside Tigers’phenom Luke Brooks and recent first-grader and new teammate Samisoni Langi, as well as Rooster John Asiata.

He scored 16 tries in 27 matches for the Raiders’ Holden Cup team last year and they’re on top of the pile this year. he’s 5’11” and 87 kegs, and can find the tryline.

He’ll at the very least provide some depth at the position but according to Twitter’s nath (@locko_nath):

Should the signing become official, let’s hope he provides that “one outside back” that Robbo was after.

Update: The rumour is already making many a fan happy before a signature has been put to paper:
