Daniel Tupou will make his representative debut this Sunday when he lines up for the City team to face Country at Dubbo. He’s the only Roosters representative selected in the game, with Mitchell Pearce not chosen — one of the surest signs that he will be the NSW halfback once again this year.
James Maloney was not considered after the five-eighth picked up a shoulder injury, while Boyd Cordner was selected to play for Australia.
Tupou — or “Izzy wit Skillz” — has been fantastic in his past two games for the Roosters, scoring a brilliant individual try against the Eels two weeks ago and somehow backing up his own incredible ball save to score this try:
He played three games for Tonga last year but this will be his first local representative selection, with many pundits predicting he could play on the big stage of State of Origin at some point in his career. He leads the Roosters this year in metres per run (10.43) and is averaging 123.7 metres off 11.86 runs with 3.14 tackle busts per game, second at the club behind just Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.
Michael Jennings wasn’t considered thanks to an ankle injury he picked up against the Dragons on Friday. At any rate, he’s considered an automatic selection for NSW.
