OK, guys. Our instant belief and worrying about every single rumour has just got to stop. It makes us all look stupid and insecure as a collective, because these are rumours based on someone randomly posting a Facebook update.
There was a bullshit rumour floating around that the NRL was investigating the Roosters for massive salary cap breaches — even though it was started by a Raiders fan and spread by a Souffs dipshit. Seemingly everyone believed it without taking into account the dogshit sources, and it looked like the fanbase was a quivering mess at the very prospect.
Prior to that, there were rumours that Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was unhappy and bound for Penrith. It was nonsense at the time, and is even more nonsensical now that JWH has come out and flat out denied the rumour.
SYDNEY ROOSTERS enforcer Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has slammed rumours linking him to Penrith, insisting he wants to extend his contract with the premiers.
Whispers have been circulating the 25-year-old has sought a release from the final year of his Roosters contract to join the resurgent Panthers, but the New Zealand 2013 World Cup prop is adamant he is going nowhere.
“I’ve got no idea where it came from . . . you can’t stop rumours, I guess. People talk,” Waerea-Hargreaves tells RLW.
“I’m happy here at the Roosters, I’ve loved my time here and I’ve still got another year on my contract . . . I’m not looking to go anytime soon.
“I’ve got to talk to Nick Politis and ‘Robbo’ (coach Trent Robinson), it’s a great club and hopefully I’m here long-term.”
OK? Is that enough to nip this crap in the bud?
Every week there is seemingly another rumour, and overwhelmingly we get nervous and believe it. Just stop, take a breath, look at the source and determine whether it has merit. Here’s a tip to help: if it’s not a major media outlet, forget about it. If it’s from a Souths fan, tell them to get fucked and to enjoy mediocrity.
It’s really fucking easy to start a rumour. Here’s one: the North Queensland Cowboys are set to offer Greg Inglis a $1.2 million a year deal, and Souths will allow him to leave so they can re-unite the Stewart brothers in Redfern and sign Brett from Manly.
See? Now, just because you read it doesn’t make it the least bit true, even if it does sound plausible as all hell.
But feel free to spread this among the Souffs faithful. Until then, don’t believe everything you read on Facebook.
