Napa charged, but free to play with plea…barely. Unlike the bloke he clocked.

Dylan Napa will escape suspension after being charged with a Grade One Careless High Tackle on the Raiders’ Joey Leilua late in the second half against the Raiders. But only just escapes:

A one-game suspension is issued with every 100 points, and Napa apparently doesn’t have any carry-over points, which is nice — and bloody unexpected.

This is huge news for a Roosters squad whose depth is already at breaking point, especially if Vincent Leuluai is out injured this week. LeDylan took home the 26Rounds co-Man of the Match award and gift card for $50 from Tandy Electronics (it’s in the mail) for his performance against the Raiders, and he would have been sorely missed against a Cowboys pack that scored a similar bonus with the news star prop Matt Scott will also avoid a suspension with an early plea for a crusher.

But perhaps the Match Review Committee realised NapTime was doing the NRL a favour? Because in a delicious twist, the guy Napa hit, former Rooster and faux-Bad Boy Leilua, faces a one game suspension for lashing out with a closed fist following the hit, and a further two games for a spear tackle made earlier in the game:

I don’t know what makes me happier: seeing Napa get off when we needed him most, or seeing Leilua face three games for doing Leilua-type things. All I know is the combination of the two is gloriously hilarious.

  1. Excellent news for Dylan, although those carry over points will be a worry. Just on Leilua’s charges, I’m baffled that the NRL is not a lot harsher on lifting tackles. After the tragic injuries to Alex McKinnon and Kurt Drysdale, not enough has been done to rid these tackles from the game.

    • Huge news… just hope he doesn’t need to use thise carry over points before JWH and Boyd get back… our depth is really strained at the minute.
