Ferguson, Guerra named to Australian Squad

Blake Ferguson and Aidan Guerra have both been named in an extended squad to face New Zealand on May 6. Ferguson’s been named to make his Australian debut on the wing, while Guerra has been named as 18th man alongside 19th man and former Rooster Michael Jennings.

The Ferguson selection in particular may come as a surprise to many fans and some Roosters fans, as he’s been disappointing for the Chooks this year: prior to the game on Monday he was averaging 4.14 missed tackles a game and his impact has been minimal in attack compared to last year. Guerra was also considered disappointing earlier in the season but his play has lifted markedly of late, in attack at least: his past two games including the Dragons game on Monday yielded an average of 19.5 runs a match.

Their promotions, however,  had been rumoured for some time and this potentially puts Ferguson ahead of his competition for a spot in the NSW Origin squad.
